Grand Inspiration

Angelica Houston wearing Alexander Calder necklace, 1976

Alexander Calder has been a huge inspiration to me and influenced my work greatly. I first saw this image of Angelica Houston wearing Calder’s necklace titled “A Jealous Husband” and knew I wanted to be an artists. I felt that if a man could create a piece of art that dominated an image over Angelica’s beauty that the piece had to be magical.

While Calder was a painter, sculptor, toy maker his jewelry and “house hold items” really struck a cord with me. Calder allowed me to slide between mediums and explore my individual artistic voice. Calder created piece that had movement and liberty. His piece spoke of modern time in a historical voice I find brilliant.
